| There are worse things in the world than juggling work and meetings when you're attending conferences but it's made a whole lot more pleasurable if you're able to be slightly indulged by staying at a great hotel. Town Hall Hotel & Apartments in London is my latest experience of this and it's left me wanting more. As a member of the Design Hotels group I expected Town Hall Hotel to have an inspiring level of design excellence to help reframe my daily perspective. In fact the thought of this had me excited before I even set foot in the place. It also helped that it was newly opened and was in East London where I wanted to spend a bit of time researching the local art and design offerings. The danger of high expectations is that they can rapidly lead to disappointment but sometimes you just want to go with your heart and hope for the best. Occupying one of the East End's most imposing and historic buildings you feel a bit like you are decamping to a sort of palace when you are confronted by an imposing neo-classical Edwardian facade that forms the public face of the former Bethnal Green Town Hall on Patriot Square. On second glance you also notice newly meshed architectural screening elements that hint enticingly at what might lie within. The mystery continues once inside the lobby as your first design nod is confirmed by an eclectically pleasing ensemble of lobby furniture and art that suggests an independent spirit is at play.
